I was recently certified as a Birkman Consultant. It has been a great choice! My clients find out more about themselves in one session than any other assessment I have used with them. I am using the Birkman assessment to help individuals learn more about themselves and companies to increase effectiveness, grow Emotional Intelligence (EQ) among teams, and help reduce conflict.

According to Bruce Tuckman, teams usually move through distinct phases named "The forming–storming–norming–performing" model of group development. According to this model, as teams begin to work together, they go through these distinct phases:

Forming - early stages of starting, goal setting, and stabilizing relationships

Storming - Personality & Value differences cause conflict.

Norming - With a common language about personality differences and shared values, group norms normalize.

Performing - Groups that build on each other's strengths tend to outperform those that focus on each other's weaknesses.

Birkman's organization believes that using the assessment and adapting the assessment's underlying principles by a typical team can reduce this forming-to-performing process timeframe from around 18 months down to about 3 months.

Implementing Birkmans on teams is real progress!
